Spring glamour. Autumn honesty

Our clamber through youth
Its glamour deludes
Us to drive faster
To climb higher
To unsuspectingly find only a few up there
Most are still dashing to and fro
down below
For a bit of gold.
When your years unfold petal by petal
You'll realize ce n'est pas la vie en rose.
Life is not a bed of roses.
That exuberant spring will give way to mellow autumn.
Its honesty, its sincerity not at all a subtle reality.
One must not look back.
One must just look forward
to the next sunrise
and the prize of a brilliant sunset.
"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7 KJV
"I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." Philippians 3:14 KJV
The poem is inspired by the Chinese expression, chun hua qiu shi in Yang Jiang's article's Be Kind to Twilight Years.
